Club Policies, By Laws & Procedures
The following statements on procedures, expectations and codes of conduct are contained in the Club Handbook for the current year, a copy of which can be downloaded from the registration page. However a number of recently updated policies are worth reiterating in the notes below.

Fair play & participation
The Southern Breakers upholds goals of fair play & conduct including –
The Southern Breakers believes that any athlete who has attended and participated in training sessions, is fit, healthy and uninjured has the right to equal time on the pitch as any other player.
The Southern Breakers will attempt wherever practical to manage the size of all squads in a manner that assists the coach achieve a sense of fair play and inclusion that is obvious to all.
The Southern Breakers supports fair play and inclusive participation by limiting match day team selection to 15 selected players.
Where there are more than 11 players in a squad, rotations of players will reflect the abovementioned attitude and fairness in the rotation should be obvious to all.
Communication –
The Club believes that coaches and other club officials should address players with respect and language should appropriately reflect the age and sensitivities of the player being addressed.
Likewise the Club believes that coaches, umpires and other officials are deserving of respect and communication with a coach, umpire or official should appropriately reflect such respect.

Selection & team structure
The emphasis of this policy is on the creation of valued opportunity to participate in the sport regardless of gender, ability or team structure.
All new and continuing players will be advised prior to the commencement of the season of come and try dates through advertisement in the Victor Harbor Times.
Attendance by players at the registration days is compulsory.
The criteria for selection in teams will include:
· the age of the player,
· the skills level exhibited by the player
· the fitness level exhibited by the player
· the performance of the player as a member of the team
· the attitude and behaviour on and off the field by the player.
A player will be placed in a squad using the following guidelines:
· Players will be placed in a team subject first to their age
· Players will be placed in a team appropriate to their skill level
· Players will be placed in a team which will enable them to achieve specific skills or a desired skill level
· Each team will have an appropriate balance of players available to play all required positions
· Players will be placed in a team which will facilitate their enjoyment of the game and encourage them to interact with new players.
· Initial selection does not guarantee a permanent position in that selected team, grade or division
· In the event that there are more players than team spaces available, preference will be given to players who have played the previous season with the Southern Breakers and or who attended all trials
· Changes and movements of players through the teams will be dependant on Club needs, injuries or coach requests
· Any issues by players/parents regarding team selections are to be directed to an executive of the Southern Breakers committee
· Players who nominate to play after Registration, and who do not attend compulsory come and try days or trials, will be started in the lowest grade for their age. The Coach of this division will assess the players competence using the established criteria. The player will be moved to another grade only if a space or position is available
· Should a player not attend training sessions as requested during the playing season the Coach will have discretion to play the individual.
· All general movements for match days (other than permanent movement) will be implemented by Coaching staff interaction. The team coach will be responsible to provide direction to the player and or parent concerned. At no time is a player or parent to organize a ‘fill in’ position.
· The Southern Breakers endeavours to promote experience in all positions for junior grades regardless of ability to maximize enjoyment and skill development.
· The Southern Breakers encourages participation at training and will accommodate players who wish to train only rather than train and play.
